Learn how to make a classic sarsaparilla.

Ingredients

  • Essence of Wintergreen
  • 1 oz 30 Everclear 95% (ethanol)

  • 0.3 tsp 1.5 ml Pure Wintergreen Essential Oil

  • Essence of Star Anise
  • 1 oz 30 Everclear 95% (ethanol)

  • 0.3 tsp 1.5 ml Pure Star Anise Essential Oil

  • Sarsaparilla Syrup
  • 14 oz 400 ml Hot Water

  • 3 cups 600 g Granulated Sugar

  • 0.2 tsp 1 ml Caramel Color

  • 0.2 tsp 1 ml Essence of Star Anise (Sassafras Substitute)

  • 0.1 tsp 0.5 ml Essence of Wintergreen

  • Sarsaparilla Soda
  • 2 oz 60 ml Sarsaparilla Syrup

  • 0.2 tsp 1 ml Acid Phosphate

  • 10 oz 300 ml Soda Water

  • Essence Flavor Instructions
  • Combine alcohol and star anise essential oil in a glass jar. Shake or stir to combine.
  • Combine alcohol and wintergreen essential oil in a glass jar. Shake or stir to combine.
  • Sarsaparilla Syrup Instructions:
  • Combine white sugar, hot water, and caramel coloring in a large heat-resistant mixing bowl. Stir till the sugar is completely dissolved.
  • Add flavor essences to the syrup.
  • Sarsaparilla Soda Instructions:
  • To make a drink, combine 2 oz (60 mLs) Sarsaparilla Syrup, acid phosphate, and 10 oz (300 mLs) Soda Water.

Combine white sugar, hot water, and caramel coloring in a large heat resistant mixing bowl. Stir till the sugar is completely dissolved. Add Sarsaparilla flavors to the syrup. To make a drink combine 2 oz (60 mLs) Sarsaparilla Syrup with 10 oz (300 mLs) Soda Water.
